Faster Image Insert – great WordPress plugin

I’ve been working with a friend on their parent’s company Web site and one of the users asked if there was a solution to a common problem: inserting multiple images into a blog post or page at one time. WordPress’ image inserting abilities only let you insert one image at a time or use the gallery function. Neither works very well if you want to insert several larger images into a post.

I’ve tried several solutions but just came across David Frank’s Fast Image Insert plugin. He has the same frustration so he created this plugin that allows you to insert several images at once into the same post or page.

I have been looking for a clean and professional-looking theme for Yuill.ca for a few months now. I ultimately wanted something that could feature a few blog posts and give me space to put widgets in the sidebar. I usually turn to premium themes when I get serious about WordPress installations because of the support that comes along with it so I was happy when I stumbled upon Vivathemes.

I plan on using this theme for an Intranet site at work as well and testing it out on my personal site gives me the opportunity to learn how it works before I spend hours upon hours trying to customize it at work during the day. My timeline for integrating into work has actually accelerated thanks to the amazing support I’ve received from Viva.

This theme is called Republica and it’s a classic two-column WordPress theme with very minimalist qualities. I’ve changed some of the colours from the original theme, made a few fonts bigger and so far have opted against putting the sidebar under the slideshow at the top of the page but that might change down the road.

The current menu item (today, at least) is “Not Everyone Gets A Trophy.” I plan on matching that spot to whatever is in the slideshow – so right now it will link to all the posts about that book. Next time it might be to all the funny movies I’ve posted here.

WordCamp Dallas

WordCamp Dallas 2008

I’m really excited about the direction the CCSAI is heading with their online presence. This year we added Melissa Feeney to our staff to spearhead our internal television network and manage our Facebook group and just recently we’ve asked her to put her blogging abilities into good use with us.

To give her a head start on this project we’re going to send her to WordCamp Dallas, a two-day conference covering all things Word Press (this blog is powered by it) and blogging in general. I’m super excited to hear what she learns down there and then implementing the best ideas here at the student association.

I sent a note to my blogging inspiration, a guy I just met in the past six months, Michael O’Connor Clarke asking if he had heard of this and he planted a bug in my ear that has totally got me pumped up. He suggested since there are so many WP’s in Toronto, we should put one together.

I’m on it!

If you’re a blogger or WordPresser, drop me a note, I hope to work with anyone who’s interested to get one of these things going.
