Wired.com blocked in China
Mathieu | January 9th, 2010 | No Comments »Wired.com, the sister site to the awesome magazine, Wired, has reportedly been blocked in China. While the magazine has been unable to confirm this independently a report from Examiner.com suggests users from Bejing to Shanghi have been unable to connect to the site since Friday.
You can see the news from Wired here but I’ve also reposted the entire story after the link. If you are in China and can confirm this directly with Wired, please do so by e-mailing them. Read More
Ken Lewenza doesn’t answer questions on Focus Ontario
Mathieu | January 5th, 2010 | 17 Comments »Between economic collapse and a downturning economy, Ken Lewenza says Canadian auto workers shouldn’t have to give up a penny to help sustain the Big Three automakers. On this episode of Focus Ontario, Lewenza is asked – that compared to Toyota and Honda whose wages are debatabley lower than that of the Big Three – shouldn’t CAW members accept a cut in pay and/or benefits. He has an answer, but not one to the question.
What to do when Google Docs won’t load
Mathieu | December 7th, 2009 | No Comments »The other day, Google Docs just wouldn’t load for me. I have no idea what was happening or why I couldn’t log on. It was very frustrating.
I searched and searched and at the end of the day, the only tip that worked for me was clearing my cache. Someone else suggested deleting all Google related cookies
Clearing my cache magically worked. I simply cleared the cache, quit and restarted the browser and there were no more problems.

Faster Image Insert – great WordPress plugin
Mathieu | November 26th, 2009 | 4 Comments »I’ve been working with a friend on their parent’s company Web site and one of the users asked if there was a solution to a common problem: inserting multiple images into a blog post or page at one time. WordPress’ image inserting abilities only let you insert one image at a time or use the gallery function. Neither works very well if you want to insert several larger images into a post.
I’ve tried several solutions but just came across David Frank’s Fast Image Insert plugin. He has the same frustration so he created this plugin that allows you to insert several images at once into the same post or page.

This is just confusing
Mathieu | September 26th, 2009 | No Comments »I was reading a Toronto Star article the other day about two women who married in Toronto but are actually from Indiana. They now want to get a divorce but since Indiana doesn’t recognize same-sex marriages they can’t get divorced there. Ontario requires at least one of the people in the marriage to live in the region for one year before proceeding with a divorce which is just impossible, the estranged couple says.
While that is certainly a catch-22, it’s not what I found confusing. It’s the picture of the two brides figurines used with the story and the cutline that reads “Two brides at a lesbian wedding day.” What? I have so many questions. Those are just figurines, they can’t be straight or gay. How are they at a lesbian wedding day? I’m so confused. The first e-mail I got this morning
Mathieu | September 18th, 2009 | No Comments »My Twitter settings are such that I receive notification whenever someone new follows me. How wonderful was it when I opened my e-mail this morning to find out I was being followed by “Death and taxes.”
Bugs + Streetlight + Long Exposure = very cool
Mathieu | August 13th, 2009 | No Comments »Found this on the Make Magazine Web site. I buy Make in the bookstore every couple of months and dream that I would have the time or even the aptitude to tackle even 10% of the projects. Same goes for the reason why I’ve been subscribing to Canadian Home Workshop for several years and get all giddy when the Lee Valley Tools catalogues show up. The good news about this is I actually could probably replicate it! Yeah, I can use a camera and tripod!
